BUFFALO SOLDIERS CENTRAL MARYLAND’S “HENRY O. FLIPPER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND”
MISSION
A one-time scholarship amount of $500.00 will be awarded to two individual winners for undergraduate study at an accredited college or university. The award will be made payable directly to the recipient's college or university. Scholarship packages must be postmark by May 15 to receive consideration. Requests that are not accompanied by the information below will not be considered for funding. · Most recent transcript of completed high school work. · Contributions to school, church, and/or community service. · Acceptance to a degree granting institution. · Two letters of recommendation. Scholarships will be awarded to high school students based on the following criteria: Formal essay from one of the topics below: 1. West Point graduate, Henry O. Flipper 2. The Army Reorganization Act of 1866 3. Compare and contrast the difficulties endured by the 9th and 10th Buffalo Soldier Cavalry Regiments to any personal challenges you encountered while pursuing your education. · All submissions must be a minimum of five pages of text (this excludes the reference page). · American Psychological Association (APA) format. Neither footnotes, nor a bibliography can be a substitute for in-text citations. · Sources must come from a combination of the following mediums: magazines, books, and the Internet. · Use Times New Roman, 12-point font. · Double space. All submissions will be judged on originality, content, and quality of research, reference material, and overall presentation. Please send all submissions to our Scholarship Chairwoman, Ms. Laura A.
